Sonwabile Mahanjana (b. 2003) is a South African contemporary artist from Protea North, Soweto. From childhood, drawing became his way of understanding the world, evolving from selling hand-drawn notebook covers at school to pursuing Fine Arts professionally. A life-changing accident in 2025 transformed his practice, giving it a deeper sense of purpose.
Working under the name Soni Mahanji, he explores beauty, emotion and the duality of human experience. His work blends aesthetic beauty with introspection, creating visual narratives that challenge perception and invite reflection. Guided by authenticity, creativity and curiosity, Mahanji believes art can preserve memory, reveal hidden truths and become part of the legacy we leave for future generations.
